For your safety, stand to the side of your horse while attaching the extension.
Brush your horse’s tail so that it’s tangle free. Find the end of your horse’s dock (the tail bone) and part the front half of the tail hair from the base of the dock. Clip it up to the top of the dock using a hair clip.
Take a small amount of tail hair from one side of the dock and plait about 10cm. Fasten with a rubber band. Repeat this process on the opposite side of the tail so you have two plaits either side of the dock.
Pass a latch hook (available from any good craft store) through one of the plaits about 2cm from the dock. Hook one of the tail extension loops onto the hook and pull the hook up through the plait so the tail extension loop has been threaded though the plait.
Remove the latch hook, and then thread the bottom of the plait through the loop of the tail extension until you have threaded the whole plait through as far as it will go. Pull tight and release the tail extension; it should now be attached.Repeat this process with the second plait and the second tail extension loop.
Join the two plaits together at their base with a rubber band so they sit flat. Release the tail hair held by the hair clip and brush the tail for a smooth, natural finish.
